USS John R Pierce
Alan has made contact with the USS John R Pierce Association in the US. At one stage the two ships operated together during the Korean War. Radarman Gene Slavin (1951-1955) writes ....
.... "I believe on July 22, 1952 the Pierce and the St Brides Bay proceeded to Chongjin to bombard gun emplacements and a transformer plant. On August 5, 1952 we were hit near Songjin and one of our ensigns - Donald L Keach - was wounded severely in the head, but was transferred to the USS Carmick (DMS33) to receive aid. From there we do not know where he went" ....
