6th Commission
March 1956 to August 1957

(Extracts from ship's magazine)

Much water has flowed under our keel since that hot morning in March last year when we met for the first time to recommission St Brides Bay. I could not help wondering that morning what was lying in store ahead of us; and how we would make out. No doubt some of you also had similar thoughts.

In the past eighteen months we have done much steaming and have seen a great deal of the world. We have been to places as far apart as Japan, the Gulf of Suez and New Zealand. Our tasks have been varied, sometimes unusual but always interesting. However, because all of you have always pulled your weight, both cheerfully and willingly, nothing has been beyond our capabilities. You have every reason to be proud of your achievements, and I thank you all for the support which you have given me.

Well, the commission is almost ended, and I hope that you will be able to look back on it as time well spent, and that you have enjoyed it as much as I have. I now wish you all a very good leave with your families and friends. Goodbye and good luck in the future, whether you are remaining in the Service or returning to civilian life.
